Randolph Steinhagen, MD

Though Dr. S is decorated with many awards and glowing reviews, he has easily been one of the most uncomfortable doctors I’ve ever worked with. His general lack of concern and blunt homophobia has made my recovery from a rectal surgery all the more unpleasant. His condescending attitude and clear disinterest in my case has made this whole process even more concerning and frightening. If you are part of the LGBT community please take heed!

Best doctor alive hands down. Understanding about no insurance. Has done about 8 surgeries on me. I will NOT go to any other colorectal surgeon even though I live an hour and a half from Mt Sinai.

Dr. Steinhagen has no qualms about violating the privacy of his patients. He’s a “teaching doctor,” so all your most private appointments will be conducted in front of an audience of students. I told him at my first appointment that I did not want his students present, but, on the day of my operation, he brought his students into the pre-op room. What’s worse, I had a friend come to pick me up at the hospital after minor surgery and Dr. Steinhagen told him at length about my procedure. Furthermore, he is not up front about how much he charges. I wanted to know how much the procedure would cost so that I could make arrangements to pay and he took offense when I asked. Overall, he treated me with less concern and less respect than I get from the cashier at my local supermarket.

This doctor is awful. He is very rude and only cares about the money. This man left an abscess in me, I had a fistula from a previous abscess that he did surgery on. I called and called and he blew me off. I had to have another surgeon take care of his mess ups. All I’m saying is do research before you choose this doctor. He is not gentle either, this man is very rough.

He did great surgery on me. His office doesn’t accept my insurance. He gave me a major discount. Highly recommend this doctor.

Dr. Steinhagen is a most compassionate, knowledgeable and skillful surgeon. I am very happy to have chosen him to perform my surgery for a chronic anal fissure. I was advised by several doctors prior to meeting with Dr. Steinhagen that this would be a very painful surgery. My surgery was successful with little or no pain afterwards. I wish I hadn’t waited as long as I did and am so happy to have been sent his way. Thank you Dr. Steinhagen!
